Anna Ramos-Jison

Bali, Indonesia was the first of the many trips our family was to have. The date was October 2004. We have booked the trip when threats were issued of possible Bali attacks to mark the anniversary of the Oct. 2002 bombings. As soon as the warning was lifted, we went ahead as planned.

Camera used: Canon G5. I shoot either in auto or program mode. I didn't know composition. I shoot more like a tourist, posing my subjects stoically.
My camera date was off, too, because I did not pay attention to camera settings until I started delving into photography.

I started experimenting my Canon G5 camera which I had put off using for months because it intimidated me. I found it big complicated for a point and shoot. I started discovering though, what a "complicated" camera could offer.
It was on this trip that I discovered I like taking pictures of people more than the tourist landmarks.

Before I went into photography, I placed my subjects dead-center. Throughout this gallery, I had seemingly the same pattern - shooting without thought of where to place my subject, nor connecting with them. Result: stoic and stiff images.
