Angkor Wat, Cambodia, Sept. 2005 : All these photos were taken by my then Canon G5 point and shoot. I did not know shutter speed and aperture then. My son Vincent and I went to Siem Riep, Cambodia, on Sept. 16-17, 2005. It was my first and hoping it wasn't my last. The Angkor Wat, as well as the other temples, are all fascinating. But it was the locals that I found joy in "conversing" via sign language. We hired a driver to take as around for 2 days. My instruction to him was: "Take us to ONLY three famous temples. Then take me to where the very rich live, also to where the slum area is. I would also like to see the children coming out of their school, and lastly, the open market at its busiest time." He thought it strange for a tourist asking to go see non-tourist places. So, at the crack of dawn, we were at Angkor Wat briefly then headed to the market. It was a feast to my eyes. The flurry of activities sent my adrenalin on overdrive. I love photo shooting markets, street people. Everyone was so busy with their own thing that nobody paid attention to the only foreigner. I went alone to the squatter area along the river. People were friendly and they even allowed me to enter their abode to take pictures. I planned to eat at the hotel but the driver insisted that I go to the Red Piano restaurant because "Angelina Jolie ate there." Sure enough her photos of The Tomb Raider were plastered all over the place.
