Trip to Philippines July 28 to August 11, 2008 with 4-day trip in between to Bangkok. As in my previous visits, it is always nice to see and be with family again.
I go home regularly the past 20 years; each time I feel and see the widening gap between the rich and poor. Poverty is a common sight. I also visited Banquerohan, the barrio (village) where I was born and spent a good 20 years of my life. Even this barrio was not spared. Seeing poverty in pictures is one story, being actually with them is another. However, what did not change in the Filipinos are their warmth, their happy disposition, and their strong Catholic faith.
The rich, the impoverished, the devotion to their religion, their beauty, all these images I tried to capture with my camera. I hope this will give you a glimpse of the Philippines, my birth country.
