Beijing
Beijing is very rich in history, very interesting. As early as three years ago when we were there, they were already decked with banners, signs of the upcoming Olympics (see their countdown timekeeper that I took a picture of.) All these photos were taken by my Canon G5 point and shoot, with a low megapixel. I did everything in auto mode as that was the only way I know how to shoot then. Because it was set in auto, some images are blasted bright, with no infomation at all.

on March 7, 2009WOW!!!!! Really good perspective in this shot. Lucky you to have found a "moment far from the maddening crowds"! This is just wonderful. I agree with your husband's statement :). The ironic part is we are trying to "impose" our infantile and dysfunctional social systems on many ancient places, peoples, and cultures in the name of democracy. We have so much to learn here in the west, if only we were wise enough to listen.

on May 8, 2008Thank you all for taking time to comment. This is the entrance to the famous Forbidden City. Once inside, it is even more breathtaking - the expanse, the design. As we were standing in one of the marbled walks, my husband made a comment: "where we are standing now has been here long before America was discovered." They have giant lions statues guarding the again-very expansive steps.
This shot was split second opportunity. Hundreds of people were actually just a few feet from him, some of them getting in the way. We were nearing the entrance whem I saw that the place was cleared - ran ans fast as I can before the people get in the way again and clicked this half running.

on May 7, 2008Cool shot Anna! I love the big red wall and the single solitary person which gives the whole thing a real sense of scale and provides mood to the scene.
